Jim

Jim Durbin started playing a chord organ at age 4 and began 10 years of piano lessons at 5. He performed on numerous TV shows before he was 15 and was judged the best player in his category for a state wide contest at age 14. He played his first professional gig at 13 with his own horn band, and after studying Jazz & Composition at Morehead State University, toured with various bands performing for Princess Caroline of Monaco during her prenuptial ceremonies in 1978 at Maxim's in Paris, and in Saudi Arabia for a 10 day concert performance, and has played with Johnny Paycheck, Little Anthony, The Coasters & George Cummings (founder of Dr Hook) among others.. He was declared to be the best keyboard player in the largest booking agency in the S.E. USA - Ted Skorman Productions, and toured the "A" rooms for show bands: Atlantic City, Cruise Ships, etc... Locally, he's played jazz with Jaqueline Jones, been an R&B/funky Brenda White "white boy", played country/rock with Austin at the beach, rock/pop/dance with The Boomers, and all the top Orlando area clubs with top 40 band Triple Threat. Along with playing music, Jim loves to mix music as well. While playing keys and singing, he also mixed the sound and ran the lights for most of the bands he's been with, and with his live sound company, he gets the luxury of just mixing the sound without having to worry about all the other jobs. He's currently been producing corporate events and many live concerts for WLOQ103.1 Smooth Jazz, The Winter Garden Music Festival, Adam's Road Band, and Soul Funktion, and serves on 2 advisory boards for Valencia Community College. His first studio gig was landed as a senior in high school composing, playing & engineering radio Jingles at CA Productions in Lexington, KY. Jim began working in recording studios full time in 1987 and designed and constructed his first studio "Key Studios, Inc." in Jacksonville, FL in 1989. Since then, he has recorded and mixed over 250 albums. mastered over 75, engineered both live and in the studio for Platinum, Gold and Grammy winning artists, and in his spare time has mastered computers and still plays live in church. Durbin Audio Designs is Jim's latest studio design (co-designed with double Grammy winning engineer and friend, Mark Pinske who was Frank Zappa's engineer for 7 years) and where he and Mary call home.
